OUR APPROACH

At Embodied Psychotherapy Portland, we provide an integrative approach to individual, couples, and group therapy. The word embodied reflects our belief in the inseparable and vital relationship between our emotional, intellectual, and physical life. Through bringing awareness to the present moment, we can uncover our capacity to bravely open to the fullness of our experience and create change from a place of wisdom and compassion.

Our work is based on Mindfulness, Buddhist Psychology, and Gestalt Therapy. All are adept approaches to developing resiliency and exploring the careful balance between acceptance and change, often through exploring how our bodies hold the richness of our emotional experience. By integrating body-based explorations into talk therapy, we can uncover early psycho-physical blocks and discover more authentic ways of thinking, moving and relating.

During my ten years as a psychotherapist I have supported people to find the unique intelligence that operates underneath their greatest struggles. No two people are alike, and I strive to build a relationship with you that allows your whole self to flourish.

My work has taken me many places: into people’s homes as an eldercare manager; hospitals as a Buddhist chaplain; a cancer wellness center as a meditation teacher, support group facilitator, and counselor; hospice as a spiritual care provider; an oncology outpatient clinic as a medical social worker; and now into private practice as a psychotherapist serving the broader mental health needs of the community.

My Buddhist studies and training in Naropa University’s Master of Divinity program grounded me in contemplative approaches to working with people during times of transition, loss, crisis, and illness. I have participated in many extensive meditation retreats and am trained as a Meditation Instructor. I also completed a two-year training in “Buddhist Psychology and Contemporary Gestalt Therapy” and am currently in an Advanced Gestalt Therapy training group.

I also received my Master of Social Work degree from Portland State University, where I focused my studies on medical social work and simultaneously pursued the Graduate Certificate in Gerontology. I spent five years working at OHSU serving the psychosocial needs of the oncology patients being treated there and their families.
