OUR APPROACH
Our work is based on Mindfulness, Buddhist Psychology, Gestalt Therapy, and Relational Life Therapy (RLT). All are adept approaches to increasing awareness of our embodied experience and discovering more authentic ways of living a fulfilling life. We work to help clients develop resiliency, emotional flexibility, and explore the careful balance between acceptance and change. We support clients’ process of deepening into a more compassionate and loving relationship with themselves and the world by accepting who they truly are. Simultaneously, we challenge people to examine and move beyond rigid, habitual beliefs or behaviors and develop more alive, creative, and connective ways of being in the world.
BANJO WEYMOUTH, PSYD
Banjo is a licensed clinical psychologist who is oriented towards helping people access their innate wisdom and natural proclivity towards healthy functioning in both body and mind.
Having grown up in the rugged beauty of Maine, Banjo fostered a love for the outdoors and adventure. This passion led him to live and study in India and later, to work as a rock climbing and mountaineering instructor for Outward Bound. While he loved the risk and adventure of mountaineering, he was most inspired by the psychological transformation and spiritual growth that accompanied the challenge of exploring our undiscovered capabilities, both physical and emotional. He found that the relationships formed with others and oneself in these moments led to greater resilience, self-awareness, and lasting change.
In his private practice, Banjo still finds himself oriented towards holding a space for people to explore their inner wilderness, with all of its rawness, challenges, and gifts. Banjo has been working as a therapist since 2001. He completed his doctorate degree in clinical psychology with his dissertation research focusing on the integration of mindfulness and psychotherapy. His current focus is primarily on helping couples develop greater relational skills and transforming the generational legacies of of trauma.
Banjo is a longtime resident of SE Portland, where he lives with his wife and two boys. He is an avid cyclocross and mountain bike rider and still, occasionally, rides his skateboard.
KERRY WEYMOUTH, LCSW, MDIV
Kerry is a licensed clinical social worker who believes that the challenges in our lives provide rich opportunities for self-discovery and growth. She works to help individuals and couples deepen their capacity to bravely open to the fullness of their experience and create change from a place of awareness rather than fear.
Kerry grew up in California, the child of former Jesuit priest and Catholic nun who left their religious orders to raise three children and dedicate themselves to social justice and a deepening spiritual path. Inspired by this, Kerry received her Master of Divinity degree from a Buddhist university and worked as a chaplain at hospitals and in hospice programs. This work of being with people in significant life transitions illuminated for her the profound, transformative nature of maintaining an open heart in the face of uncertainty and change.
Kerry later received her Masters in Social Work and worked for many years at OHSU with cancer patients and their families until transitioning to a private practice in SE Portland. Her current approach focuses on helping individuals and couples realize their relational potential and transform challenging patterns into greater vulnerability, empathy and accountability.
Kerry lives in SE Portland with her husband and two energetic boys. She is a passionate cook and cyclist, and finds great joy in the rare, quiet moments within the fullness of her life.
